Gramercy Park & Union Square Overview
There are three neighborhoods within Gramercy Park - Union Square Area:
Gramercy Park, Union Square, and Stuyvesant Town (some New Yorkers consider
Flatiron an area). Together, these neighborhoods make up the area below Midtown
East and above the East Village. This area is centrally located and home to some
of New York's most residential streets and hippest restaurants and nightspots.
Gramercy Park & Union Square Residents & Culture
Gramercy Parkis a prestigious
and isolated residential
area, exemplified by the locked fence around Gramercy Park, which is for
Gramercy residents only. Irving Plaza and its shops, restaurants and bars is the
local gathering place. Gramercy also hosts Curry Hill, a destination for high-quality Indian food.
Union Square and Flatiron,
due South of Gramercy Park, is where the fun begins. Union Square hosts some of
the best and trendiest shops, restaurants, nightspots, and hotels in New York
City. Residents of Union Square are young and vibrant.
Stuyvesant Town, Southeast
of Gramercy Park, is another quiet residential area like Gramercy Park,
but without the luxuries, prestige or the high prices.
Gramercy Park & Union Square Architecture & Rents
Gramercy Park consists
of luxury residences, elaborate old brownstones.
Rents in this prestigious neighborhood are NOT cheap, but you will not be disappointed.
Union
Square consists mostly of renovated apartment
buildings some more luxurious than others, but all expensive. Rents are more
reasonable as you move nearer the East Village.
Stuyvesant
Town
rents
are more reasonable, but less luxuries and a less central location.
Gramercy Park & Union Square Transportation & Commuting
The Union Square Subway Station is one of the
best on the Eastside. However, like most Eastside areas, Subways become
less accessible the further East you go. Buses are regular and convenient
and make a suitable substitute. Walking to Midtown and commuting to
Brooklyn is also manageable from here. |
