Whitestone Overview
Whitestone was reportedly named after a large white rock that stood near the shore.  Whitestone is comprised of the areas Beechhurst and Whitestone.  Beechurst was formed as part of Whitestone and was called Beechurst because of the beech trees located there.  Whitestone was primarily a manufacturing town in early 1900's.  Whitestone, now has mostly transformed to a residential community with many single-family homes, small apartment houses, as well as two large apartments complexes.  Whitestone provides a serine environment to reside in as it borders the East River.  The main shopping areas are located along 14th Avenue and 150th Street, and at the Whitestone Shopping Center.

Whitestone Residents & Culture
In the beginning Whitestone was mostly settled by German immigrants, lately  it has seen a influx of many immigrants from all over.  Today, Whitestone is a multicultural and ethnically diverse area.

Whitestone Residences & Rent
Most of the area's apartment buildings were constructed during the 1950s.  There are mostly single-family homes, and small apartment houses as well two large apartments complexes.  General rents in the area for studio ranges from $700-$1000, one bedroom from $900-$1200, two bedrooms from $1300-$2000, and three plus bedrooms start at $2000-up.

Whitestone Transportation & Commuting
