Glen Oaks, Queens was once the home of William K Vanderbilt. The Vanderbilt estate was later turned in to a golf course which was then sold a development company. Herein started the development of Glen Oaks after World War II you could find many two story apartment buildings and then later on began the development of high rises.

Glen Oaks population grew in the early 1900's as German, Irish, Italian and Jewish immigrants settled here with intention of raising their children in a suburb.  Today, Glen Oaks predominately middle class neighborhood filled with newer immigrants from Hispanic and Asian descent.
